Pico W Student Kit - CircuitPython for Beginner
- Brands Kit by Cytron Code: KIT-PICO-W-B
Note: The example code provided in this kit is for CircuitPython programming language only. Don't worry if you've never heard of CircuitPython before – it's easy and beginner-friendly! :)
Note: Starting from 12 May 2023, the Microwave Radar sensor and RTC module come with presoldered header.
This microcontroller is very famous among makers and IoT enthusiasts. Raspberry Pi Pico Wireless (Pico W), the 1st MCU board from Raspberry Pi with wireless, launched on June 2022. What's more interesting is that Pico W now comes with a Student Kit! Currently being used by UniMAP students as part of their syllabus, this kit includes a range of resources, including code and schematics, to help users get up to speed quickly. Whether you're a student looking to expand your knowledge or a maker looking to explore new possibilities, this Student Kit is a perfect choice.
With 24 example basic projects included, starting with the basic "LED blinking" project, the kit progresses to more advanced electronic projects with sensors and even IoT projects. The IoT projects are especially exciting, as students will have the opportunity to learn how to apply their projects with IoT platforms such as Telegram Bot, Thingspeak, Blynk, and Adafruit IO. By gaining hands-on experience with this kit, students will be able to take their skills to the next level and create truly innovative projects.
The Raspberry Pi Pico W is capable of running on C/C++, MicroPython, and CircuitPython. However, for this kit, we will focus solely on CircuitPython, which has gained popularity among makers in recent times. CircuitPython is a beginner-friendly programming language designed for microcontrollers. What makes CircuitPython special is its simplicity and ease of use, which allows even those with no prior programming experience to start tinkering with hardware and building fun and interactive projects in no time. One of the great features of CircuitPython is its built-in libraries for common tasks like controlling LEDs, reading sensors, and playing sounds. This means you don't have to spend a lot of time learning how to write low-level code to get started, but can jump right in and start making things move, blink, and beep.
In addition, CircuitPython has a built-in REPL (read-eval-print loop) that allows you to interactively test and debug your code, making it easier to learn and experiment with programming concepts. And if you get stuck or need help, there's a large and supportive community of makers and educators who can provide guidance and support. Overall, CircuitPython is a great choice for beginners who want to learn programming and electronics in a fun and engaging way. Whether you want to build a robot, create a musical instrument, or perform IoT projects, CircuitPython provides an accessible and enjoyable path to getting started.
This kit is a special collaboration between Cytron and Dr. Asmadi, a lecturer from UniMAP. The kit provides everything students/makers need to get started with CircuitPython and Pico W.
